Marie Stevenson  August 15, 1938 - February 9, 2013
Mrs. Marie "Maro" Stevenson, 74, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 in Raleigh. Marie was a Greek who was born in Alexandria, Egypt. She was the daughter of the late Leonidas and Eleni Photiades. She came to the United States in 1962 as an exchange student and met her future husband, Stuart Michael. After a whirlwind romance they were married later that year and recently celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage. She was a graduate of the University of Athens in Economics, and later obtained masters degrees in Psychology and Linguistics. She was proficient in five languages, and taught English and ESL at the University level.
Maro is survived by her husband, Stuart Michael of Raleigh; two children, Christopher Stevenson of Richmond, VA, and Jessica Phillips of Los Banos, CA; and her brother, Steve Photiades of Daytona Beach, FL. She has three grandchildren, Sophia and Dimitri Phillips, and Ian Stevenson.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 5000 Lead Mine Rd, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. Memorial contributions to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
