We have two food drives happening ... ------------- Leesville Road Middle School is hosting a Food Drive to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. The drive runs through Friday, February 28th. Any LRMS student can accept donations. Lisa England is coordinating the event and would be happy to accept donations as well, and ensure that they are delivered to the Food Bank. She will have a bin outside her garage doors at 8441 Sawyer Drive. Thank you for supporting the Food Drive and the Leesville Community! Lisa England xxx@xxx.xxx ------------- Be a part of PORCH Raleigh Donating food to kids in need has never been easier! Hello! My name is Colleen Streetman. I'm new to Springdale Estates. I moved here in August with my husband and three young children. We used to live in West Raleigh, and my husband and I have been in Raleigh most of our lives. I have been a volunteer with the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle (foodshuttle.org) for about 20 years. This amazing organization recovers/delivers/provides food to Triangle citizens who need it! I deliver weekly for the Durham BackPack Buddies program - which provides meals and snacks for schoolkids to take home for the weekends. I've recently been inspired by the PORCH Durham organization (porchdurham.org) - they have more than 80 coordinators collecting food monthly in their neighborhoods. This provides all the food the Durham BackPack Buddies needs all year long! The Raleigh program needs more consistent donations to keep kids fed! I want to help - I hope you do, too! Once a month I will collect donations of food from YOUR FRONT PORCH. When you're at the store, pick up a few extra things from the provided list to donate. Or see what unopened things you can spare from your pantry. Donate as little or as much as you like. Put them in a bag and I will pick them up and deliver to the Food Shuttle so they have a significant monthly supply of donations. Super easy, right? These are the kinds of things needed in backpacks: * Granola bars & Cereal bars * Pop-top canned veggies & Pop-top canned fruits (NO soft tops) * Pop-top meals (Chef Boyardee, etc) * Easy Mac, Ramen, Cup o' Noodles * Instant oatmeal & grits * Juice Boxes (NO pouches) & Shelf-stable milk boxes (regular and soy) * Healthy snacks: goldfish packets, pretzels, popcorn, cracker sandwiches, individual raisin boxes * NO CANDY OR JUNK FOOD PLEASE! If you are interested or if you have questions, please email me: xxx@xxx.xxx! And if you have friends in other neighborhoods who want to help us grow, please pass along my name & email address! I look forward to hearing from you and being a part of the Springdale community! Thank you for reading! Colleen Streetman 8804 Katharina Ct
